Rugged, 2021 is a one page abstract non-sequitur comic
I created in response to Joe Minter’s Old Rugged Cross,
1998. This work was an offering for the Mia’s
Transcontinental Dialogue project; a virtual altar
created for the gallery show In the Presence
of Our Ancestors.
In this piece, I tried to convey the emotion and the
emotional weight and sorrow that accompanies Minter’s
original piece and the story behind it of Denise McNair,
Addie Mae Collins, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley,
who’s young lives were lost in the 16th Street
Baptist Church Bombing.
