#NoKidsInPrisons, 2023
In 2023 had the honor of working with the Legal
Rights Center, End Youth Prisons, MN, and Performing
Statistics in their national billboard campaign. Through
this project I was educated on the disparities and
harm that the youth prison system creates and had
the opportunity to work with a group of youth artists
and activists to create a billboard design and poster
design that captures the vision and mission
of #NoKidsInPrison.
The Legal Rights Center youth staff that we worked
with provided a variety of reference materials to work with
including photographic portraits of themselves in
uplifting and inspiring poses, photographs of florals
and nature, a list of the type of imagery they wanted to
see and imagery they didn’t, and poetry they created
on the importance of abolishing youth prisons. This
was all material used by me and other artists in the
campaign to create the billboards and posters.
My billboard was displayed in at least five different
locations in the Twin Cities and my posters passed
out at the #NoKidsInPrison traveling art show.
