In the summer of 2021, I was commissioned by
Community Members for Environmental Justice,
CMEJ, to create a memorial mural to honor Terrell
Mayes Jr, a young boy whose life was tragically lost
to gun violence at the age of 3. The mural was to be
placed in a peace garden that CMEJ and Terrell’s
mom, Marsha Mayes created in his name.
The mural was completed for a celebration at the
garden on July 29th to celebrate his 13th birthday.
It was a blessing to work with Marsha to create this
mural in my own neighborhood. Please read the
articles below to learn more about Terrell and
the other children who’s lives were lost to
senseless gun violence.
